Egypt’s inflation drops to 11.1% in December – CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s annual inflation retreated to 11.1% in December, compared to 22.3% in the same month of 2017.

The consumer price index (CPI) declined 4.1% month-on-month, recording 296.5 points last December, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Thursday.

The CAPMAS attributed the fall in the inflation rate to the drop in prices of vegetables by 22.4%, meat and poultry by 2.3%, fruits by 0.6%, and fish by 0.5%.

In December, the CAPMAS reported that the most populous Arab country’s annual inflation had slipped to 15.6% year-on-year in November from 26.7%.

The CPI had registered 309.1 points in November, down 0.7% month-on-month.
