Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s annual inflation fell to 13% year-on-year in July 2018 from 34.2%.
The consumer price index (CPI) increased 2.5% month-on-month, recording 289.9 points last month, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Thursday.
The monthly rise in the Arab world's most populous country's inflation rate was driven by an increase in the prices of vegetables and fruits by 8.8% and 3.5%, respectively, in addition to an increase in the alcoholic and tobacco prices by 7.2%.
Moreover, the prices of the housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel rose by 5.2%, the state-run statistics agency noted.
In July, the CAPMAS said that Egypt’s annual inflation tumbled to 13.8% in June, from 30.9% in the same month a year earlier.
