Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s consumer price index (inflation) jumped 12.9% year-over-year in May, said the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
On a monthly basis, the index rose by 3.2% to 188.4 points from 182.6 points registered in April.
The rise in Inflation is mainly ascribed to increasing prices of grains, poultry and meat products, medicines, health care, fast foods, as well as vegetables, CAPMAS indicated.
In April 2016, Inflation rose to 10.9%, compared to 9.2% in April 2015, the state agency earlier said.
Inflation rates are likely to hit 10-11% during the current fiscal year and to ease down to 7-8% by 2018/19, official data indicated.
