Egypt's inflation spikes to 14.8% YOY in June – CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s consumer price index (inflation) jumped to 14.8% year-over-year in June, said the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

On a monthly basis, the index added 189.9 points, or 0.8%, compared with 3.2% a month earlier.

The agency ascribed this rise to the increasing prices of vegetables, poultry, meat and dairy products, fruits, as well as ready-made garments, CAPMAS indicated.

By the end of the fiscal year 2015/16, inflation stood at 10.7%, compared with 11% a year earlier, the state-owned agency added.

The government expected inflation rate to decline at 10-11% by the end of the fiscal year 2015/16 and 7-8% by the fiscal year 2018/19, according to official data.
