Egypt’s issued banknotes fall EGP 9bn in September - CBE

Cairo – Mubasher: The value of issued banknotes in Egypt marginally dropped 1.9% month-on-month in September 2017, according to the Central Bank of Egypt’s (CBE) monthly bulletin.

Issued banknotes retreated by EGP 9.1 billion to EGP 453.7 billion in September from EGP 462.8 billion in August, according to the CBE’s data.

The volume of issued 200-pound, 100-pound, and 50-pound notes reached EGP 252.6 billion, EGP 157.7 billion, and EGP 26.7 billion in September, respectively.

Moreover, local liquidity grew by 4.5% or EGP 132.2 billion in the July - September period, rising to 3050.4 billion in September.

Near money increased by 4.6% or EGP 101.2 billion, while money supply rose by 4.4% to EGP 31 billion.

The CBE last posted that Egypt’s foreign reserves slightly surged to $37.109 billion at the end of December from $36.723 billion in November.
