Egypt’s issued banknotes mark 4M-low in November - CBE

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s issued banknotes fell marginally for the fourth month in a row last November, data by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) showed.

Issued banknotes slashed by EGP 2.13 billion to EGP 481.17 billion in November 2018 from EGP 483.3 billion a month earlier, according to the CBE’s data.

The volume of issued 200-pound, 100-pound, and 50-pound notes reached EGP 288.36 billion, EGP 150.06 billion, and EGP 23.6 billion in November, respectively.

Moreover, domestic liquidity rose slightly at the end of December to EGP 3.62 trillion, versus EGP 3.58 trillion in November.

The CBE had posted that Egypt's foreign reserves rose to $42.61 billion at the end of January.

Prior to the 25th January revolution in 2011, Egypt’s foreign reserves amounted to around $36 billion.
