Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, fell by 5.4% month-on-month (MoM) to 108.8 in March from 115.0.
The index of food industries registered 203.91 in March, up by 11.4% from 183.01 in February on the back of increased demand ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Thursday.
In addition, the index of beverage industry increased by 13.6% to 179.73 in March from 158.21 a month earlier, bolstered by higher demand by the beginning of summer.
On the other hand, the index of textile industries declined by 15.1% to 69.72 in March, compared to 82.16 a month before as the number of working hours and labour decreased due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.
Moreover, the index of electrical appliance industry went down by 9.2% to 80.96 in March from 89.15 in February with the halt of many production lines.
