Egypt's manufacturing index down 7.5% in May

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, declined by 7.5% month-on-month (MoM) to 86.86 in May from 93.86 April.

The index of beverage industry rose by 58.1% to 171.2 in May from 108.3 a month earlier, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Monday.

In addition, the index of computers, electronics, optical products, and medical devices amounted to 124.7 in May, up by 33.3% from 93.6 in April.

On the other hand, the index of food industries fell by 25.2% MoM to 124.1, compared to 165.9 in April.

Meanwhile, the index of tobacco industry slid by 33.3% to 76.2 in May from 114.2 in the prior month.
