Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, advanced by 1.08% to 94.75 (initial) in August from 93.73 (final) in July, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The index of manufacturing chemical materials increased by 9.95% month-on-month (MoM) to 111.56 points in August from 111.56 on the back of higher demand for detergents and sanitisers, the CAMPAS said in a statement on Thursday.
In addition, the index of manufacturing clothing registered 88.83 in August, up by 1.77% from 87.29 a month earlier ahead of the new academic year.
On the other hand, the index of manufacturing non-metallic mineral products such as brick, glass, and cement dropped by 8.18% MoM to 61.53 from 67.01 in July after suspending construction works to protect workers from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Meanwhile, the index of manufacturing paper and its products fell by 9.04% to 53.10 in August from 58.38 in the prior month, pressured by lower demand due to the growing trend towards online learning.
