Egypt’s manufacturing index surges 21% in June – CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, increased by 21% month-on-month (MoM) to an initial 104.7 in June from 86.6 in May.

The tobacco manufacturing index jumped by 82.5% to 138.7 in June from 76.0 a month earlier with the reopening of coffee shops and reduction of curfew hours, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Monday.

Meanwhile, the index of chemical materials industry advanced by 19.6% to 106.8 in June, compared to 89.3 in May, helped by the higher demand for detergents and disinfectants cleaners amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Additionally, the index of computers, electronics, optical products, and medical devices manufacturing amounted to 135.2, up 26.5% MoM from 106.9 in May.

The index of pharmaceutical and chemical products also rose by 13.8% to 122.7 in June from 107.9 a month earlier. 

Moreover, the index of transport equipment manufacturing leapt by 192.9% to 316.8 in June, compared to 108.2 in the prior month.
