Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, increased by 2% to 99.15 (initial) in December 2020 from 97.23 (final) a month earlier, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The index of manufacturing pharmaceuticals and chemical products advanced by 2.8% month-on-month (MoM) to 121.76 in December 2020, compared to 118.44 thanks to the increased demand for medicines, detergents, and sanitisers amid the second wave of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the CAMPAS said in a statement on Sunday.
Moreover, the index of non-metallic mineral products (brick, glass, and cement) industry rose by 6.7% MoM to 89.26 from 83.67 in November 2020 due to the higher demand for construction materials.
On the other hand, the index of manufacturing beverages declined by 2.6% to 101.62 last December from 104.38 a month earlier.
Meanwhile, the index of ready-made garments fell by 3.6% MoM to 82.41, compared to 85.51 in November 2020.
