Egypt's manufacturing index up 8% in October – CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s production index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, rose 8% month-on-month in October to 139.41 from 129.03 points, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The mining and quarrying industry index jumped 43.8% to 201.69 points in October, compared to 140.24 points in September due to an increase in salt production, according to the statement.

The food industries index surged 23.5% to 177.91 points in October from 144.04 points in September, as oil production grew.

The ready-made clothes index fell 9.1% to 187.47 points in October against 206.14 points in September as a result of weak domestic sales and exports, in addition to the suspension of some production lines.

The metal manufacturing index dropped 16.3% to 90.09 points from 107.64 points due to lower demand for metals.

The CAPMAS previously announced that Egypt’s production index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, rose 10.2% month-on-month in August to 117.22 from 106.33 points.
