Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, increased by 8.8% month-on-month (MoM) to 131.62 points during July from 120.99 points in June.
MoM, the index of ready-made clothing rose by 25.41% to 335.5 points in July from 267.59 points, ahead of the new academic year, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
Moreover, the index for other manufacturing industries hiked by 73.3% MoM to 145.18 points in July, when compared to 83.79 points, thanks to the rise in the country’s exports of stationery and antiques.
In contrast, the index of chemical material manufacturing fell to 116.66 points in July from 129.53 points in June, a 9.9% decline due to a slowdown in demand for detergents and personal hygiene products leading to low production.
Similarly, the index of base metal manufacturing slipped by 4.3% MoM to 73.82 points in July from 77.10 points due to furnace overhauls.
