Egypt’s mobile phone subscribers dip in January – Report

Cairo – Mubasher: Mobile phone subscribers in Egyptian telecom firms slipped by 0.37% month-on-month, or 350,000 subscribers, to 93.43 million in January from 93.78 million, a recent report by the Egyptian communication and information technology ministry showed.

Year-on-year, the number of subscribers fell by 7.78%, or 7.89 million, in the first month of 2019, according to the report.

In the same vein, subscribers of the landline service increased by 3.5% month-on-month and by 23.3% year-on-year in January, reaching 8.15 million, the report revealed.

Internet users via mobile phones amounted to 34.13 million last January, compared to 35.06 million users in December 2018 and 29.33 million in the same month a year earlier.

Meanwhile, the USB modem users in Egypt stood at 3.15 million in January, compared to around 3.21 million a month earlier and 3.21 million users in the same month last year.

Additionally, the report said that the ADSL users in the North African state reached 6.62 million in January, versus nearly 6.53 million in December and 5.33 million in January 2018.
