Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s non-oil exports increased by 15% year-on-year during the January-May period of this year, recording $10.96 billion from $9.51 billion.
Total volume of external trade notably grew by 12.5% to $37.56 billion, versus $33.36 billion in the first five months of 2017, trade minister Amr Nassar said in a statement on Tuesday.
Exports of the chemical industries and fertilisers improved remarkably, rising 25.5% year-on-year to $2.15 billion from $1.72 billion, Nassar indicated.
For his part, head of the General Organization for Export & Import Control (GOEIC) Ismail Gaber said that the Agadir agreement members were the most important markets for Egyptian exports during the five-month period.
He noted that the value of exports to Agadir agreement countries surged 28.5% to $622 million, against $484 million in the same period a year earlier.
Egyptian exports to the African countries rose by 16% to reach $1.7 billion in the five-month period ended last May, versus $1.35 billion in the prior-year period.
Meanwhile, exports to the European Union (EU) totalled $3.068 billion, compared to $2.56 billion in the year-ago period, rising 19%.
