Egypt’s non-oil imports down 5% in June

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s non-oil imports dropped by $263 million or 5% year-on-year (YoY) to $5.303 billion in June from $5.565 billion, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Sunday.

Imports of textiles slid by 42% to $160 million from $277 million, while imports of handicrafts fell by 27% to $26 million from $35 million, according to data by the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC).

Moreover, imports of leather products and shoes decreased by 23% to $10 million in June from $13 million in the same month a year earlier.

Additionally, the country’s imports of ready-made garments slipped by 15% to $24 million from $28 million, while imports of engineering products and electronics declined by 11% to $1.412 billion from $1.584 billion.
