Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s non-oil imports fell by $1.6 billion or 27% year-on-year during January, according to official data.
The North African nation’s non-oil imports declined to $4.401 billion in January, compared to $6.031 billion in the same month a year earlier, the Egyptian General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) said in a statement on Thursday.
Imports of medical industries shrank to $99 million from $276 million, while imports of building materials dropped by 42% to $622 million from $1.074 billion.
Moreover, imports of furnishings, handicrafts, and chemical products and fertilizers decreased by 35% to $8 million, 31% to $20 million, and 30% to $667 million, respectively.
