Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s non-oil imports retreated by $1.381 billion, or 21%, year-on-year to $5.11 billion in September, compared to $6.491 billion, according to data released by the General Organization of Export and Import Control (GOEIC) on Tuesday.
Construction materials sector was the top decliner with imports falling by 33% to $731 million in the ninth month of the year, compared to $1.089 billion in the corresponding month a year earlier.
Ready-made garments came in the second place with a 27% year-on-year decrease in imports, reaching $46 million in September from $63 million in the same month of 2018.
Furniture imports dropped by 26% to $135 million from $181 million in September 2018, while imports of leader products went down to $15 million, compared to $20 million.
Moreover, imports of engineering and electronic products fell to $1.456 billion last September from $1.89 billion a year earlier.
