Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s non-oil imports declined by 21.18% year-on-year (YoY) to $23.53 billion in the first five months of 2020, compared to $29.85 billion, according to data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The most populous Arab nation’s food imports shrank to $4.553 billion in the January-May period, down by 22.8% YoY from $5.894 billion, the CAMPAS said in a statement on Wednesday.
Chinese exports to Egypt fell the most to $4.010 billion from $5.223 billion in the corresponding period, followed by the US with exports sliding to $1.801 billion from $2.388 billion.
In the meantime, the North African nation’s non-oil exports dropped to $10.30 billion in the five-month period ended on 31 May, down by 7.8% from $11.18 billion in the prior-year period.
The decrease was attributed to lower exports of raw cotton and feedstock which went down to $1.202 billion from $1.309 billion.
Turkey topped countries with the steepest drop of exports from Egypt, falling to $605 million from $747 million.
