Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s non-oil imports retreated by $766 million, or 13.5%, year-on-year in June, according to data released by General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC).
The North African nation’s non-oil imports decreased to $4.877 billion at the end of June, compared to $5.643 billion in the same month a year earlier.
The drop in non-oil imports was attributed a retreat in imports of furniture which registered $56 million in June from $127 million a year earlier as well as a decrease in leather imports which amounted to $11 million from $18 million in June 2018.
Moreover, imports of building materials tumbled to $733 million in the sixth month of 2019, compared to $1.92 billion in the corresponding month a year earlier.
Meanwhile, imports of engineering and electronic products fell to $1.186 billion in June from $1.355 billion a year earlier, while imports of fertilizers and chemical products dropped to $735 million, compared to $808 million in June 2018.
Furthermore, imports of spinning and weaving products declined to $263 million in June, compared to $277 million in the same month of 2018.
