Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s population rose by 3.3 million people to 98.1 million at the beginning of 2019, compared to 94.8 million in 2017, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
Males accounted for 51.6%, while females represented 48.4%.
In January, Cairo governorate made up 9.8 million of Egypt’s population, followed by Giza with 8.9 million.
Egypt's young population, aged below 15 years, accounted for 34.2% of the total population, whereas old population, aged above 65 years, represented only 3.9% at the beginning of 2019.
The annual growth rate of the Egyptian population dropped to 1.9% in 2018 from 2.5% in 2014.
