Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's prime minister Mostafa Madbouly on Saturday said that he has confirmed with a number of governors that the increase in public transport prices across the country would not exceed 20%.
The premier noted that the price hike for transportation within governorates and those linking between governorates ranges between 10% and 20%.
The new fares will be placed near main bus stops and parking areas so that people are made aware of them, Madbouly said, adding that the fares will also be published by local media to ensure that they are available to all.
The statement follows the Egyptian government's fuel price hike commenced early Saturday.
Earlier today, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources raised fuel prices. Petroleum minister Tarek El Molla stated that this hike would save the government around EGP 50 billion and may reduce consumption by 5% during the coming fiscal year.
