Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's strategic sugar reserves are enough to cover the country’s needs for a one year, said Supply Minister Khaled Hanafi.
In May, the Egyptian government pointed out that strategic sugar stocks are enough to last up till early 2017.
His statement came following the first meeting of the sugar committee formed by the government to develop the sector.
According to official data, Egypt annually consumes around 3.2 million tons, out of which 2 million tons are locally planted and 1.2 million tons are imported,
On 18 May 2016, the government imposed EGP 900 fee on sugar exports per ton.
