Egypt’s textile exports fall to $257m in January

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s textile exports retreated to $257 million in January, down 0.4% year-on-year (YoY) from $258 million in the same month a year earlier.

Over the course of 2019, the textile exports rose by 0.1% to $3.053 billion from $3.048 billion a year earlier, according to the monthly report released by the Textiles, Apparel, and Home Textiles Export Council on Monday.

In January, the exports of ready-made garments fell by 3%, while the exports of home furnishing and textiles rose by 9% and 2%, respectively.

Egypt’s textile exports to the US rose by 1% YoY to $96.2 million last January, while the country’s textile exports to African countries grew by 15% to $4.5 million from $3.9 million.

Meanwhile, the country’s textile exports to Arab countries dropped by 6% YoY to $30 million from $32 million in January 2019.
