Egypt’s tourism revenues reach $3.5bn in 7M

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s tourism revenues soared 170% to $3.5 billion during the first seven months of 2017, compared to the prior-year period, a government official told Reuters.

The official attributed this tourism revenue growth to the 54% year-on-year increase in the number of tourists visiting Egypt for the seven-month period to reach 4.3 million visitors, especially the increased number of visitors from Germany and Ukraine.

“Europeans made up 75% of visitors [to Egypt], while Arabs made up 20%,” he continued.

Egypt’s tourism revenues are forecast to rise to $6 billion by the end of 2017, despite Russia’s ban on flights to Egypt, he said.

The official mentioned that Egypt hopes that the number of tourists will increase to 8 million visitors, compared to 4.5 million tourists in 2016.

Egypt will keep promoting for the country in Europe and the Arab World until the end of the current year, according to the news agency.
