Egypt's tourist arrivals drop 44% in December – CAPMAS

Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt welcomed 440,400 tourists from all over the world in December 2015, a drop of 43.7% from 781,600 in the same month of 2014, according to the official data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Minister of Tourism Hisham Zaazou earlier told Mubasher that Egypt's monthly losses from the Russian plane crash are estimated at around EGP 3.2 billion.

A Russian plane was crashed in November 2015, a few minutes after departing from Sharm El Sheikh Airport.

Western Europe ranked first in terms of sending tourists to Egypt in December with 39.7%, followed by Eastern Europe with 15.1%.

The Middle East came in third place with 26.4%, with Saudi Arabia dominating 29.1% of the Middle East's arrivals.
