Egypt's tourist arrivals hike 55% in 11M

Cairo – Mubasher: The number of tourists who visited Egypt rose by 55% year-on-year in the first 11 months of 2017, CEO of the Tourism Development Authority Hisham El Demery told Almal News.

Arab tourists made up 30% of total visitors, compared to 15% in 2016, while Asian tourists accounted for 5% to 10% of tourists who visited the North African nation, El Demery added.

The number of British tourists surged by 30% in 2017, although the UK has not lifted the flight ban to Sharm El Sheikh yet, he highlighted.

Tourism revenues of the Arab world's most populous country are forecast to grow to $7 billion and the number of tourists who visited Egypt to reach 7.5 million by the end of 2017, according to deputy tourism minister.

Given tourism revenues soared 211.8% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2017 to $5.3 billion from $1.7 billion in 2016.
