Egypt’s trade deficit down 48% in 2017

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian minister of trade and industry said that the deficit in the trade balance declined by 48% during the first four months of the year.

Tarek Kabil added in a statement on Monday that the trade deficit recorded $8.49 billion between January and April, compared to around $16.19 billion during the same period of 2016.

During the four-month period, Egyptian exports increased 14% to a total of $7.43 billion, compared to $6.545 billion between January and April 2016.

On the other hand, imports decreased to $15.93 billion down from $22.64 billion during the corresponding period of the previous year.

The trade deficit registered 46.24% during the first quarter of 2017, after totalling $49 billion during the last fiscal year.
