Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's unemployment rate declined in the first quarter of fiscal year 2017 to 12%, compared to 12.4% in Q4-16 and 12.7% in Q1-16, according to figures released on Monday by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The number of unemployed reached 3.503 million in the first three months of FY17.
The size of the labour force came to 29.149 million individuals, rising 0.3% or 79,000 individuals quarter-on-quarter and 2.5% or 710,000 individuals year-on-year.
Unemployment among those aged 15-29 reached 79% of the total labour force in the same age group.
The unemployment rate among males decreased in Q1-17 to 8.2% from 8.5% in Q4-16 and 8.9% in Q1-16, while unemployment among females retreated to 24.7% from 25.3% in Q4-16 and 25.7% in Q1-16.
