Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s unemployment rate fell to 10.6% during the first quarter of 2018, versus 11.3% in Q4-17.
The size of labour force slid 0.3% quarter-on-quarter, or 86,000 individuals in Q1-18, recording 29.18 million workers, according to a statement by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, labour force grew by 0.1% year-on-year, or 37,000 workers during the three-month period ended last March, the state-run agency added.
The number of unemployed fell by 6.5% quarter-on-quarter, or 215,000 jobless people and declined by 11.7% year-on-year, or 409,000 individuals to 3.094 million individuals in Q1-18, the CAPMAS said.
Unemployed males and females accounted for 7.3% and 22%, respectively of total workforce in the first three months of 2018, the statement highlighted.
Unemployment rate among youth aged between 15 and 29 years old amounted to 75.2% of total unemployed people, according to the state-run agency's data.
Egypt’s unemployment rate dropped to 11.8% in 2017, down from 12.5% a year earlier, data by the CAPMAS previously showed.
