Egypt's unemployment rate reaches 12.4% in Q4

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's unemployment rate reached 12.4% in the fourth quarter of 2016, versus 12.6% in the third quarter of the year, according to figures released on Wednesday by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The number of unemployed reached 3.59 million in Q4-16

The Egyptian government plans to reduce the unemployment rate to 10-11% by the end of fiscal 2017-2018, in accordance with its programme.

Unemployment rate of 15-29-year-olds reached 79.1% of the total labour force in the same age group.

Male unemployment rate came to 8.5%, while female unemployment rate reached 8.7%.

The size of labour force came to 29.07 million individuals, rising 0.9% or 250,000 individuals quarter-on-quarter and 2.6% or 730,000 individuals year-on-year.
