Egypt’s vision to attract 10m tourists seen ‘far-fetched’ – Analysts

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government will apply a future refreshing strategy for tourism sector  to attract 10 million visitors approximately in six months, according a press release by the Council of Ministers on Monday.

Nonetheless, experts deemed the government’s vision "non-viable" as some countries are still banning direct flights to the country.

In 2015, Egypt has received 9.3 million arrivals in 2015, compared to 14.7 million in 2010.

This plan is mainly contingent on stability factors in the coming days, namely security measures to avoid any potential hitches like the Russian plane crash, said Nagy Erian, the Vice Chairman of the tourist hotels division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce (CCC).

Moreover, Egyptian airline companies should be supported to boost foreign check-ins, Nagy added, shedding light on the former tourism minister’s proposal to set up an international cost-effective charter airline company.

Adel Abd-Al-Razk, a tourism company’s runner, described the state vision as “unrealistic” amid a foggy scene for a number of issues, most importantly including the government motionlessness to win a certification proving Egyptian aviation safety and security.

In his point of view, “improving mental picture over the status quo in Egypt remains the pivotal factor for accomplishing the government’s plan”.
