Egypt’s wheat reserves hike 23.6% in FY16/17

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s wheat reserves increased 23.55% year-on-year during the fiscal year 2016/2017, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics’ (CAMPAS) data on Monday.

Wheat reserves amounted to 332,000 tonnes in the FY 16/17, up from 268,700 tonnes in FY 15/16.

The number of wheat silos of the private and public sectors declined to 18 silos in FY16/17 from 19 silos in the prior fiscal year, the data showed.

Moreover, the number of grainers in the private and public sectors reached 471 grainers, while the number of warehouses stood at 1,087 in the same period.

The Supply Ministry intends to import up to 7 million tonnes of wheat during the current FY 17/18.
