Egypt seeks to cut budget deficit to 6% in FY20/21

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt targets a budget deficit of 6% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) during fiscal year 2020/2021, the country’s minister of finance Mohamed Maait said.

During the current fiscal year, the North African nation is forecast to achieve a budget deficit of 7.2% from 13% three years ago, Maait added during Euromoney conference on Monday.

In addition, the government also aims to achieve a primary surplus of 2% of the country’s GDP in the medium term, the minister noted.
