Egypt set to sign protocol with WFP to support people hit by COVID-19

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Local Development is set to sign a protocol of cooperation with the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide assistance to those economically hit by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The protocol will include people who suffered from the precautionary measures taken to stem the spread of the virus in the neediest villages included in the presidential initiative “Hayat Karima” (Decent Life) in Assiut, Sohag, and Qena, minister of local development Mahmoud Shaarawy said in a statement on Wednesday.

In addition, assistance will be provided to irregular workers and those in default on loans provided by the Local Development Fund.

The protocol will start covering 101 villages in the three governorates.
