Egypt sets up sludge digestion plant at EGP 2bn in Alexandria

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is establishing a sludge digestion plant for treating wastewater in Alexandria at a cost of EGP 2 billion, deputy minister of housing Sayed Ismail said.

The project is aimed at reducing the sludge produced by the Eastern Wastewater Treatment Plant in the coastal city by 30% and generating green electricity, Ismail added in a statement on Sunday.

Set to be the largest wastewater treatment project in Alexandria, the project will run on renewable energy produced by the sludge.
