Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian transport minister on Sunday said that the ministry will add 250 new locomotives to the state’s railway system.
This move aims at enhancing the services for the citizens and boosting the locomotive fleet of the Egyptian National Railways (ENR), Kamel El-Wazir added in a statement.
The ministry is dealing with a private advisor over getting new 100 locomotives in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) that will prepare the terms and conditions of the bid, El-Wazir indicated.
Moreover, Egypt will receive 100 locomotives from US conglomerate General Electric (GE), in addition to 50 locomotives to be supplied following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between ENR and Progress Rail.
Accordingly, the railway system in Egypt will be supported with 250 new locomotives, the minister highlighted.
This came on the sidelines of a meeting between El-Wazir and heads of the ENR to discuss a number of projects that will develop the railway system and improve the services for passengers.
