Egypt to become regional hub for grain storage

By El Sayed Solyman

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is primed for becoming a regional hub for storage of grain in the few coming years, said Philip Blumberg, Chairman and CEO of U.S.-based family company Blumberg Grain.

The top executive told Mubasher that his company is seeking to carry out projects in Egypt that will reduce the percentage of grain loss to less than 5% annually from 40% currently.

The company is planning to implement some developments to Egypt’s storage system, which will save around $7 billion annually upon reducing in loss percentage and maximising utilisation of stored grains, said Blumberg.

Egypt, the world’s biggest importer of wheat, is suffering a high percentage of grain loss during storage due to undeveloped storage system.
