Egypt to build 1st nuclear power plant in 2 yrs

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian electricity ministry said that construction of the North African country’s first nuclear power plant would begin in the coming two to two-and-a-half years.

The 4,800-megawatt (MW) plant, that will be built by Russia at Dabaa in the north of Egypt, is set to start operations by 2026, the ministry’s spokesman told Reuters.

Egypt and Russia had signed an agreement last December to begin the construction of El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.

Russian state nuclear company Rosatom will construct the power plant at a value of up to $21 billion.

In November 2015, both countries signed an initial agreement to build and operate the first nuclear power plant in Egypt at $26 billion.
