Egypt to build 600,000 housing units in FY16/17 – Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government plans to build 600,000 residential units in the fiscal year 2016-2017, said minister of finance Amr El Garhy in a statement on Sunday.

The units will be built as part of the community housing project at a total cost of EGP 100 billion, the minister said, speaking before the parliament regarding the budget for 2016-2017.

The government's public treasury will save around EGP 33 billion of the total cost, the ministry said in a statement.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi previously called on the housing ministry to complete the construction of 145,000 housing units for youth as part of the community housing project in 2016 at a cost of EGP 20 billion.
