Egypt to buy 1,300 railcars in 2018

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) plans to upgrade the railway infrastructure in Upper Egypt during the coming period, the head of Egypt’s railway Ashraf Raslan has said.

ERA will purchase around 1,300 railcars, marking the largest deal in the authority’s history, he revealed to Extra News, indicating that the tender includes 500 air-conditioned third class railcars.

Raslan also revealed that the new railway line connecting Ain Sokhna to Al Alamein will be extended for 550 kilometres. It is expected to be completed by 2021.

On a side note, ERA has affirmed that it would continue operating the extra railcars until the end of August.
