Cairo – Mubasher: Electricity prices in Egypt are likely to be changed at the beginning of the new fiscal year in July, according to TV statements by spokesman of the Ministry of Electricity Ayman Hamza.
Hamza said that the Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency is assigned to set the new electricity tariff.
“The removal of the electricity subsidy does not mean lifting them from people of low income, but it aims at achieving mutual support by setting the real cost for high energy consumers,” he added.
Electricity subsidy allocations for the current fiscal year were set at EGP 29 billion, versus EGP 37 billion for the previous year.
