Egypt to construct new dam in Shalateen

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian ministry of water resources and irrigation said that the Shalateen Dam will be the biggest in Egypt’s Eastern Desert, in terms of height and storage capacity.

The 12 meter-high dam will have a capacity of 7 million cubic meters, thus protecting the surrounded area from flooding and contributing to its economic development, the head of the ministry’s groundwater sector, Sameh Saqr told the Middle East News Agency (MENA) on Saturday.

The Egyptian Armed Forces’ National Service Projects Organization (NSPO) will carry out the construction in cooperation with the ministry, he added.

It will not be an obstacle in the road to the Upper valleys, nor will it affect the ecological balance in any way, Saqr noted.
