Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt plans to export electricity to Europe through Cyprus, Egyptian electricity minister said on Monday.
The North African nation also considers raising the number of electrical grids with the Arab and African countries, state-run news agency MENA reported, citing Mohamed Shaker.
This came on the sidelines of a meeting between Shaker and the parliament’s energy and environment committee to discuss the electricity ministry’s plan to reinforce collaboration in the field of power generation and linkage.
Electricity is not available for nearly 600 million people in Africa, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa, Shaker indicated.
Africa enjoys a high level of renewable energy as a 300-gigawatt power can be generated at the Congo Basin area, which is 150 times more than Aswan High Dam’s production, he highlighted.
The kilowatt in this area costs around $0.30 to $0.40, which is really low in comparison with the global prices, the minister said.
