Cairo – Mubasher: The prices of railway tickets in Egypt will rise within days in a bid to address the transport ministry’s financial deficit, transport minister Hisham Arafat said in a phone broadcast to CBC.
The price of VIP tickets will increase by 25%, while ticket prices of air-conditioned trains will surge by 40%, Arafat highlighted.
The Egyptian National Railways’ (ENR) financial deficit amounted to EGP 5 billion, he noted.
“The ENR's losses stood at about EGP 670 million in 15 months as a result of the increase in diesel prices,” he continued.
The prices of second-class train tickets are set to be raised by EGP 2 to EGP 3, the minister said.
