Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt plans to import 80 shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in fiscal year 2017/2018, minister of petroleum Tarek El-Molla told Alborsa News.
These shipments will cost $1.8 billion to partly satisfy local needs, El-Molla added.
Egypt’s gas output increased to 5.2 billion square feet per day from 4.46 billion square feet after entering the initial production phase of the fields of western Delta, he highlighted.
The minister noted that the importation programme takes different needs and gas consumption rates over months into consideration, as it records the highest rates in summer.
Gas production is anticipated to rise gradually after entering the initial phase of Zohr field, as well as Atoll field by the end of 2017
Egypt had imported 118 shipments of LNG in FY16/17.
