Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) is undergoing development projects worth an approximate EGP 55 billion, according to transportation minister Hesham Arafat.
The sector’s plan involves obtaining 200 new carriages, as well as maintaining 81 old ones, with maintenance workshops and supportive infrastructure expected to see a renovation plan along the 1,200 kilometre railroad.
The ministry has completed the steps of obtaining 1,300 passenger cars, and 300 cargo carriages.
ENR’s total debt exceeded EGP 40 billion, with the authority bearing annual losses of EGP 360 million, during to the rising fuel costs.
The transportation ministry is studying a new increase in ticket prices in collaboration with the ENR, Arafat indicated.
