Egypt to raise Metro ticket prices to EGP 4 in 2018

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Transportation, Hesham Arafat, said that beginning next year, the price of Metro tickets will be increased to vary between 2, 3, and 4 pounds, according to the number of stops.

Arafat added in an interview with Al Masry Al Youm that the Metro grid will be expanded, by adding 5.15 kilometers with investments of EGP 4.3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The minister noted that it will not be fair to charge EGP 2 for a ticket, if the metro travels 82 kilometer, which is the reason behind the increase in prices in the upcoming year.

The cost for the third line alone amounted to EGP 80 billion, he added, indicating that the fourth line will have a cost of more than EGP 30 billion.
