Egypt to raise Zohr output to 700mcfd next May

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt plans to boost gas production at its giant offshore gas field Zohr in the Mediterranean to 700 million cubic feet per day (mcfd) in May, petroleum minister Tarek El-Molla told Reuters on Sunday.

In 2015, Italy’s Eni discovered Zohr that contains an estimated 30 trillion cubic feet of gas.

In December 2017, El-Molla said that pumping Zohr's gas output into to Port Said treatment plant has started with an initial production capacity of 350 mcfd.

The North African nation seeks to accelerate production from recently discovered fields, hoping to stop gas imports by 2019 and achieve self-sufficiency.
