Egypt to replace all state employees' payroll cards with Meeza by December-end

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is set to replace all state employees' payroll cards with Meeza contactless debit cards by the end of December, the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, said.

The country aims to replace 1.2 million government payment cards with Meeza cards during February, March, and April, he added in a statement on Tuesday.

The ministry is collaborating with Banque Misr, the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), Housing and Development Bank (HDB), Arab African International Bank (AAIB), Emirates NBD, Banque du Caire, the Arab Banking Corporation (ABC), the United Bank, the Commercial International Bank (CIB), and Egypt Post for the issuance of these cards.

The pilot phase of the project was launched in 2020 and the official launch was in February 2021, he pointed out.

The Meeza cardholders can withdraw and deposit cash, transfer payments, shop online or at point of sale (POS) machines, and pay all government dues using cashless methods.
